Houston (IAH)-based B737 First Officer Patricio C. arrived in the United States at age 12 from Quito, Ecuador, and worked hard to achieve his dream of becoming a first-generation pilot for United. On the way to achieving this goal, Patricio made many sacrifices and lived in several states before settling in Houston.

He worked and earned his flight experience at our partner, Mesa Airlines, for 8 years as a Captain before he applied to join the Aviate program through the United Express entry point. Once he finished the program, he was finally able to transition to United.

“It was an incredible experience that deepened my knowledge and made me a better airline pilot,” Patricio shared.

He recently had the remarkable opportunity to land his plane in Quito for the first time and said the thrill of returning to the place he once called home was indescribable.

“This experience just goes to show that dreams really do come true,” he said.
