Intern Spotlight - Summer 2024

This summer, United’s Flight Operations department welcomed several interns across our hub airports, Flight Training Center (FTC), Pilot Strategy programs and more. Our Flight Ops interns have made a huge impact across the business, and some of them are also Aviate participants!

Martina F.

Team: Chicago (ORD) Chief Pilot’s Office


Summer highlight: Sitting in the jumpseat on an international trip to Frankfurt and on a domestic trip with her Aviate Coach. She has also helped with events around the airport, such as retirement ceremonies, assisting with the D-Day veteran sendoff ceremony for the 80th anniversary in Normandy and escorting film crews and tours.


Aviate participant: Martina joined Aviate through Purdue University, one of Aviate’s university partners, and is loving learning the operations side of the aircraft through her internship this summer. “I knew that I wanted to end up at United as soon as I possibly could,” Martina shared.


Fun fact: Martina has flown 53,315 miles on United flights this summer, including destinations such as Iceland, Hawaii and Rome.

Molly A.

Team: Denver (DEN) Flight Training Center (FTC) Human Factors + Pilot Development


Summer highlight: Sitting in the jumpseat on the B787 to Athens Greece while observing her father, Captain Jeff A., on his 35th anniversary flight with United. “This internship has given me a great opportunity to see what goes into running an airline and all the behind-the-scenes work,” Molly shared.


Aviate participant: Molly joined Aviate through the United Family Program entry point. She is a current student at Oklahoma State University, pursuing a degree in Aerospace Administration and Operations with a minor in Emergency Management.


Fun fact: Molly will be finishing her Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating this fall.

Brandon B.

Team: Houston (IAH) Chief Pilot’s Office


Summer highlight: Riding in the jumpseat from Denver to Munich on the B787. “This summer internship has been an amazing experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Brandon said.


Aviate participant: Brandon joined Aviate through University of North Dakota, an Aviate partner university.


Fun fact: Brandon has flown 75,000 miles this summer covering almost all of the fleet types that United has.

Kyle G.

Team: Aviate & Pilot Strategy, supporting program design and technology


Summer highlight: Meeting incredible employees at United and working in Willis tower.


Fun fact: Kyle has flown 123,521 miles this summer with United, equating to 10.5 days.

Nori A.

Team: San Francisco (SFO) Chief Pilot’s Office


Summer highlight: Analyzing delays for STAR Alliance flights departing from SFO, with a focus on crew preparation-related issues. Through this, Nori has worked closely with a Flight Manager and Assistant Chief Pilot. He has also been able to observe pre-flight meetings with pilots at the Chief Pilot’s Office, learning the qualities and attributes required to be a successful pilot at United.

Regardless of their rank or years of experience, I’ve seen that all pilots exhibit passion, enthusiasm, respect, professionalism and exceptional communication skills,” Nori shared


Fun fact: Nori rode in the jumpseat to Kona, HI on his birthday, marking it the best birthday he’s ever had as it blended his passion for aviation with a memorable personal moment.

Brett N.

Team: Newark (EWR) Chief Pilot’s Office


Summer highlight: Jumpseat trips to Orlando and Dubrovnik, as well as a Boeing tour in Seattle.


Fun fact: Brett has flown 36,452 miles this summer with United.

JB B.

Team: Los Angeles (LAX) Chief Pilot’s Office


Summer highlight: A jumpseat flight with Chief Pilot Brian Jackson to Osaka, Japan flying across the Pacific Ocean in a 777-300ER. JB especially enjoyed seeing the crew dynamic from the Station Ops and NOC, as well as seeing how it all comes together. Another highlight has been the outreach events at the airport for local high school students and partnering with local pilots to give an in-depth look at the multiple career paths United offers into aviation.


Fun fact: JB has flown over 40 flights and 120,000 miles this summer.

Kevin N.

Team: Flight Operations Support at CSC – Willis Tower


Summer highlight: Working at both the Corporate Service Center (CSC) and the Chief Pilot’s Office at ORD and learning both sides of the operation.


Fun fact: Kevin’s favorite trip this summer has been Japan! He has flown 36,311 miles this summer with United.

Ivy A.

Team:Flight Training Center (FTC) - Fleet Training Leadership


Summer highlight: Working with everyone on the FTC team who has supported her personal and professional development, advocating for her to pursue new projects. “Each day presents a new opportunity for growth,” Ivy shared.


Fun fact: Ivy is certified as an aircraft dispatcher and CFI / CFII with a commercial multi-engine rating.
